Admin rule types

A rule type categorizes rules based on event types and the conditions associated with assets and asset types. A rule type can also use durations if the rules are supposed to work for some time.

Add rule type

1. Click Rule Types on the left menu:

2. Click the plus button on the top right of the page.

3. This page appears:

4. Help text appears when you click the question mark icons near certain fields.

5. Click Create when you are done filling out the information.

Name

The rule’s name

Groups

The rule’s group

Is External?

Triggers events in response to external rules when checked

Include Timeframe?

Allows a user to indicate a time window during which this rule can create events when checked

Event Types

Assign an asset type that was created previously

Entity

Prefix

Makes the rules created downstream of this rule type user readable

Filter Entity Selection

Select to filter by asset types, assets, area types, or areas

Select [Entity]

Allows filtering options of selected entities. Selecting all of a particular entity is discouraged

Allow Types?

Allows the user to apply rules to any entity of a type

Allow Specific?

Allows the user to apply the rule to one specific entity or all entities

Suffix

A suffix to make the rules created downstream of this rule type user readable

Duration

Mark the Include Duration? box to allow duration in rule creation.

Data Type

Choose among string, number, and boolean. The rest of the fields are based on this choice

Number

Users can input criteria for various relationships.

Assign labels to:

  • Greater Than (or Equal To)

  • Less Than (or Equal To)

  • (Not) Equal To

Then, give it a value (integer) and its units.

Area relationship

Inside Label

How the rule is read. If the label is inside, then an example rule might read, “when an asset ‘is inside’ the mall”

Outside Label

Under the Area section are the same value keys as the Entity section, except it only allows Area and Area Type for entities.

Choose AND or OR to create more conditions. Click Create to save all changes before moving on.

View rule types

1. Click Rule Types on the left menu:

2. Search or filter the rule types you want to view.

3. Here is a rule type example:

4. Click the event type label to go to that particular event type.

5. Click the respective icon on the top right of the page to edit, clone, or delete the rule type:
